Google has launched Gemini 3 Flash, a new AI model positioned as delivering "Pro-grade reasoning at Flash speed." The model is now the default engine in the Gemini app and is available to developers via Google AI Studio, offering rapid response times suitable for complex reasoning tasks.

Notably, the announcement highlighted the model's performance on Global PIQA, a benchmark designed to evaluate physical commonsense reasoning across different languages and cultures. Two experts from the University of Iceland played a key role in developing this global standard: Hafsteinn Einarsson, who contributed to the Icelandic portion, and Annika Simonsen, who led the work on the Faroese portion.

Their participation ensures that next-generation models like Gemini 3 Flash are tested not just on English proficiency, but on their ability to grasp the cultural context and logic specific to Iceland and the Faroe Islands.
