Symposium about the first Icelandic language technology project
Symposium in Edda 28. January 16:00.
On Wednesday, 28 January, from 16:00–17:30, a symposium will be held in Edda about the first language technology project in Iceland.
In 1972, Baldur Jónsson, Björn Ellertsson, and Sven Þ. Sigurðsson launched a pioneering project in which computers were used for the first time to conduct research on the Icelandic language. The project marked the beginning of computer-assisted linguistic research in Iceland.
At the symposium, Stefán Ólafsson will trace the history of this project. This will be followed by a presentation from Sigrún Helgadóttir on subsequent projects carried out up until the turn of the millennium.
The event is held by Máltæknisetur and CLARIN-IS. It is open to all, and admission is free.
