Network-adjusted player lifetime value for a computer game

Description

We want to improve how we value players in a Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO)

game by going beyond “how much they personally spend.” In MMOs, players create

value for each other through network effects: being present, forming groups, creating

conflict, teaching newcomers, and keeping the world active. This thesis builds a

network-adjusted LTV model that combines a player’s direct predicted value with an

estimate of the value they generate for others through social ties and compares it to

standard player-level and cohort-based LTV.

How applications work

  1. Sign in with your University student account and send a short application.
  2. The assigned supervisor receives your application and contacts you if more information is needed.
  3. Follow the decision in My applications. You will also receive an email when the status changes.

Response times vary by project. Contact the supervisor for an update; submitting an application does not reserve a place.

Additional information

Qualifications: This project is suitable for Master’s students in statistics at the University of Iceland with a strong background in programming. Applicants must have completed the courses Applied Linear Statistical Models (STÆ312M), Theoretical Statistics (STÆ313M), and Applied Data Analysis (MAS202M). Given the scope of the project, a solid grasp of the concepts and techniques covered in these courses is essential. Familiarity with economic theory is an advantage.
